There is only so much you can do with make up once you reach the age of 30.  As women age, less make up should be used.  The reason for this is that heavier coverage will emphasize problem spots such as under-eye circles and annoying lines on the face.  Your best bet would be to use a concealer in the right shade, applied only on the spots where you really need it.

Step 1.  Moisturize

Because concealer is thicker and more concentrated than foundation, it often cakes up on dry skin.  It is essential to prep your skin with moisturizer.  To fill in fine lines and create

a smoother canvass, moisturize a few minutes before you apply your concealer to give give your skin time to absorb the moisture.

Step 2.  Decide

Look at you skin and decide if you really need a foundation.  Even if you’re used to using it, try experimenting with concealer only – you might end up looking better than you expected.  However, if you really want a full coverage, apply your foundation at the right time after a moisturizer, but before the concealer.  Doing concealer first, risks it blending away when foundation is applied.  Your foundation should match you skin perfectly, but concealer needs to be slightly lighter.

Step 3.  Identify problem areas.

Use concealer only on specific spots such as on pimples or on dark circles under the eyes.  The rest of the face should be left bare.  The point is to even out your skin, not  to cover it completely. Clear skin shining through looks younger and prettier.

Step 4.  Practice minimalism.

More pigments are contained in foundations and powders than in concealers, so little is enough for your face’s needs.  Begin with a dab and only add more if you must.  Use your fingers to apply on larger areas, gently tapping until makeup blends into your skin.  Use a small, angled brush for smaller areas.

Step 5.  Preserve

Even if the concealer generally last longer than your foundation, it needs help to stay in place all day.  Sweep a large brush over transluscent  powder, shake to remove excess, then whisk the brush over your face to set the makeup.  Don’t brush powder under your eyes – they’ll look cakey.
