Are you fortunate enough to have a beautiful pair of blue eyes? Here’s how to make them stand out.

What’s the first thing people notice about you? Most likely, it’s your eyes. A beautiful pair of eyes can make even the plainest face more captivating. If you’re fortunate enough to have an intriguing pair of blue eyes, why not learn how to enhance their beauty? Here’s how to make blue eyes bluer.

Choose your eye shadow shade carefully

To make blue eyes really “pop”, use eye shadow in shades of brown, copper, or gold.

These colors work because they’re opposite to blue on the color wheel. The contrast between the blues and browns causes each to appear brighter and more defined. Try using more than one shade in the brown family such as a dark brown and a gold shadow to add even more impact. Brown shadows that have orange undertones are also quite effective for bringing out blue eye color. Other eye shadow colors that play up blue eyes include deep purples, rich burgundies, and dark greens.

Use a brown eye liner

Lining the lids lightly with a dark brown eyeliner is one of the quickest and most effective ways to enhance blue eye color. Like brown shadows, a brown liner brings out the color of blue eyes. If you have fair hair or pale skin, try a lighter shade of brown, but keep your liners in the brown or copper family if you have blue eyes.

Enhance your lashes

Use an eyelash curler to shape your lashes and open up the eyes. Follow up by applying a few light layers of a dark brown mascara to add definition. Although some sources recommend applying a small amount of blue mascara to the tips of lashes to enhance blue eyes, be careful. This can look overdone. Stick with the browns and your eyes won’t look noticeably made up, just beautiful.

Stay away from blue eye colors

Some people assume that blue eye shadow and eyeliner is a natural for blue eyes. Not true. Not only will blue shadows and liners not enhance blue eye color, they cause blue eye color to look faded. Go for contrast to play up eye color.

Change your hair

Lightening the hair or adding lighter highlights around the face is an effective way to bring out the beauty of blue eyes. If you’re already blonde, use a lemon rinse on the hair to subtly brighten the hair and enhance eye color. Another way to call attention to blue eyes is to cut bangs. Whether you choose bangs all the way across or a few wisps around the forehead, this style will cause your eyes to stand out more.

Use clothing to enhance your eyes

Although it’s best to avoid blue eye color, wearing clothing in shades of blue can compliment blue eyes. Spend some time experimenting to determine what shades of blue bring out your eye color best. Some shades of purple and lavender also work well with blue eyes. Try holding various fabric shades against your face and see which ones enhance the beauty of your eyes.

Blue eyes are beautifully expressive. Why not show them off? Give these color enhancing tips a try.
