Why waste your money on expensive cosmetic lip plumpers when you can make your own at home? Here’s how.

The desire for plumper, fuller lips appears to have taken Hollywood by storm. As might be expected, the public appears to have jumped on the puffy lip bandwagon by heading to their plastic surgeons’ offices for painful lip injections. The less courageous women desiring fuller lips have opted for the purchase of cosmetic lip plumpers. Although lip plumpers may give temporary, slight fullness to the lips by causing irritation, they don’t give the dramatic results that the cosmetic companies would have you believe. Plus, they can be expensive. One solution to this problem is to make your own lip plumper at home. You’ll be surprised at how quick and easy this is and much more economical than purchasing the cosmetic company counterparts.

Although there are several different types of lip plumpers that work by different mechanisms, the most common lip plumpers are made of a variety of essential oils that have an irritating effect on the lip tissue, resulting in the slight plumping effect you see. Although these oils aren’t going to give thin lips that bee stung look, they may have a slight lip enhancing effect when applied properly. Just be sure not to use any type of lip plumper often as it can result in more prolonged skin irritation and even ulceration.

To make your own lip plumper, add a few drops of wintergreen, cinnamon, and menthol essential oils to a container of pre-made, clear lip gloss. An alternative is to add these same essential oils to a small amount of petroleum jelly. The resulting mixture can be applied to naked lips with the excess gently wiped away. You should notice a slight burning and redness after application followed by the appearance of slight lip swelling. Another way to make lip plumper is to mix two part Vaseline with one part bee’s wax. The essential oils can be added to this mixture and then stored in a small jar in the refrigerator to keep it fresh. Another natural substance that’s known to have an irritating effect on the lip surface is cayenne which can slightly plump up the lip surface when added in small amounts to lip gloss. Just be careful not to add too much which could have some unpleasant side effects.

When you make your own lip plumper at home, you can avoid paying the high prices you’ll almost certainly encounter at cosmetic counters. Plus, you’ll know you’re using only natural ingredients which is not always the case with commercial lip plumpers.

Will lip plumpers give you the lip fullness you’re looking for? They may help as long as you realize the results will be slight and only temporary. They can be a nice way to subtly enhance your lips for a special night out.
