How to Make Braids and French Braids
Girls, don’t you just love French braids? They are neat, easy, and appealing. Try it and see if you like the results.
To Make a Braid:
- Divide hair into three even sections.
- Bring the right section over the middle, and pull the original middle section under it to the right.
- Bring the left section over the middle, and pull the middle to the left.
- Repeat this right over the middle, left over the middle process until you reach the end of the hair (or the point at which you want the braid to end.)
- Use an elastic hair band to tie the end securely. Cover this with a scrunchie or ribbon if you wish.
Note: Pulling the middle sections snugly to the sides as you go will make a tighter braid.
To Make a French Braid:
- Starting at your temple, draw your thumbs in a straight line across to the middle back of your head. Gather and smooth this hair to begin your braid.
- Divide this hair into three even sections.
- Begin by making a regular braid for two or three cross overs.
- On the third or fourth cross over, begin to add in small sections of hair to each section as you cross it over the middle section.
- To gather the added in hair, hold the three main sections of the braid with one hand while you use your opposite thumb to draw from the scalp line straight back. Making sure the strands are smooth; add the hair to the section of the braid that will cross over the middle section.
- Continue until all the hair is used, and then continue making a regular braid until you reach the end.

I have an easy variation on the french braid. I use two strands and keep crossing over from the right temple to the center of my neck in the back. I place a clip on it, then do the left until the two sections of hair meet. Then I either braid them together,or simply pony tail the hair. It is super simple, and like the braid, stays neat all day.
Good article, Ruby. I don’t explain details as well as you do.

Thanks to you ladies for your comments, and you too Amos. I’m sure you would look just as good as we ladies with a braid in your short hair. My hair is barely long enough to braid since my bad haircut. That’s interesting the way you do yours, Judy. I used to french braid mine in one braid down the back, and I have started at the nape of my neck and braided to the top then wound them aroung my head. That was a long time ago when I had long hair.
Best wishes to you all. Ruby
