Bring out the candles, play some soft music, and indulge in inexpensive spa treatments you can do right at home.
The ingredients are available right in your own kitchen. You can ask your husband to give you the foot massage.
You’ll Need:
a large basin (make sure it can fit both your feet, with room to spare)
foot file (a stone or loofah will do)
milk as foot soak
olive oil
rock salt (if you have sensitive skin, use iodized salt or sugar instead)
Treat Yourself:
1. File down your calluses with a foot file or stone. This is also a good time to cut and file your toenails.
2. Warm up a gallon of milk. Make sure you use regular milk; skim milk is too thin.
3. While the milk is heating, mix the salt and olive oil into a rough paste. This will be your exfoliating scrub.
4. When the milk is warm enough, pour it into a large basin. Make sure the milk isn’t too hot — you don’t want to scald yourself!
5. Find a spot where you can lounge and soak your feet for five to 10 minutes.
6. Head for the bathroom and scrub your legs and feet with the salt and olive oil mixture. Rinse off before returning to your comfy spot.
7. Coat your feet and toenails with more olive oil, which makes for a really good moisturizer. You can also use a body or foot cream. Massage into skin. Concentrate on the center of the soles and the toes. Rubbing these sensitive points feels heavenly.
8. Why not give yourself a pedicure? Use an orange stick to push back your cuticles; then get rid of hangnails with a nipper.
9. If you’d like some polish, make sure you clean the nail bed and remove old varnish before applying a base coat of clear polish. Put on color and then the top coat of clear polish. Let dry and you’re good to go.
