If you wash your hair daily and yet it looks limp and lifeless then you are doing something wrong.

You may not know this, but learning how to properly wash your hair is going to have a tremendous impact on the bounce and brilliance of your looks.

Lather, rinse, and repeat: these are the basic cleaning steps that everyone knows. But for the cleanest hair with the least damage and using the least amount of shampoo, there are a few extra precautions to take.

Step 1 : Begin by brushing your hair before you get into the shower.

Not only with this help reduce the amount of hairs that get caught in your drain, but it will also reduce breakage as well as stimulate circulation going in your scalp.

Step 2:  Wet your hair thoroughly under the shower. When you wash your hair always make sure that the water is warm and not hot.

Hot water hurts your scalp and dries the skin. For best results use warm water to open the scale-like cuticles of the hair and wash all the oil and dirt off.

Step 3: Decide the right shampoo for your hair type and the right conditioner.

For example:

Dry hair- Moisturizing Shampoo & Moisturizing conditioner

Step 4: Use a dime or quarter-sized amount of shampoo depending on your hair’s length. Take the shampoo in your hands or in a bowl mix it with little water and apply on the hair.

Step 5:  Massage your hair in circular motions and lift hair from time to time from the roots well to form lather in the hair.

Make use of both the hands to massage the scalp, so that the shampoo is applied throughout the hair. Start by lathering hair at the roots and working your way down.Thoroughly rinse your hair till all traces of shampoo are gone.

Step 6: Apply a generous amount of conditioner from roots to ends.

Concentrate on the last 1/4 of the length since this is the oldest part – try to avoid your scalp, especially if you have flake issues.  Pour a few drops of conditioner on your finger tips and run your fingers through your hair starting from your earlobes. Keep the conditioner on your hair for a few seconds and wash it off with cold water. This should take about 1 and a half to 2 minutes. If needed, part your hair and check to make sure it’s all out.

Step 7: Lastly, rinse your hair again with cool water to close the pores of your hair and help keep your hair shiny and less frizzy. If you can’t stand the cool water you can use warm water but stay away from hot water.

Step 8: Use a towel to squeeze or blot your hair to remove additional water – do not rub or scrub your head.

Step 9: Allow hair to air dry naturally as long as possible for a healthy, natural look. Try to brush and style hair only minimally when wet to prevent inadvertent damage.

Though washing hair may seem simple, the appropriate steps need to be taken to insure that your hair is not only clean, but is also healthy, manageable, and stylish. With proper washing and other care, your looks can be fresh and beautiful every day of the week. Don’t take my word for it though, try it and see for yourself!
