Natural Remedies for Damaged Hair

There are several wonderful and effective natural remedies which can take care of damaged hair without any side effects usually associated with chemicals and medicines.

Living with damaged hair means waking up to a bad hair day more often than not. Most people resort to everyday styling to counter this problem. However, this compounds your trouble instead of solving it. Before you find yourself caught in this vicious cycle, stop and take a look at these natural remedies that will keep hair problems at bay.

Damaged Hair: Eggs to the Rescue

Protein is the building block of hair. The best way, thus, to restore your hair’s natural shine and nourishment is treating it with protein. Protein treatment smoothen the strands of hair, giving it sheen and strength.

Egg yolk is rich in fats and proteins and a great source of moisturizing for your hair, while the albumin contains bacteria-eating enzymes that have cleansing qualities.

·         Normal hair: Use the entire egg to treat your hair

·         Oily Hair: Refrain from using the yolk, just apply the egg white

·         Dry or brittle hair: Use egg yolk for much needed moisturizing, leave out the egg white.

Choose the egg mixture best suited to your hair and apply a generous coat on the damp hair and scalp. Keep for 20 minutes before rinsing with cold water and shampoo.


Your hair type and its Treatment:

Dry or dull hair

·         Yogurt: Yogurt contains lactic acid and white fat moisturizers that can work wonders for dry and damaged hair. Apply three generous tablespoons of yogurt onto the hair and rinse after 20 minutes. This treatment can be repeated weekly.

·         Honey: Honey is another great moisturizing agent. Apply honey to clean, damp hair, gently massaging it onto the scalp and on strands of hair. Rinse with lukewarm water after 30 minutes.


Frizzy hair

·         Mayonnaise and avocado: Mayonnaise contains oil and egg which makes it a healthy proposition for dry hair. For best results, mix two tablespoons of mayonnaise with half mashed avocado and apply on brittle and dull hair.

·         Gelatin: Gelatin is another great source of protein. A gelatin hair mask is a great way to tackle dry, damaged hair. Mix I tablespoon of gelatin in 1 cup of warm water, add a tablespoon of vinegar and apply on the scalp and hair. Rinse with lukewarm water after 10 minutes.

Greasy hair

·         Cornstarch: Cornstarch is an inexpensive yet sure shot way to keep oil away from the scalp. Put one tablespoon of cornstarch into an empty salt shaker and sprinkle onto your hair and scalp. Brush it out with a hairbrush after 10 minutes.

Limp hair

·         Beer: Being rich in yeast, beer is the best way to add bounce to limp hair. Mix flat beer with vegetable oil and egg and apply it to clean, damp hair. Rinse with cold water after 15 minutes.

You can now say goodbye to damaged hair without indulging in expensive and time consuming professional protein treatments at salons. All you need is the right mix of these wondrous products easily available in your house.
