How to Use a Round Brush

Give yourself a salon-quality blow out!

Somehow, a woman’s hair never looks as good as when she leaves the hair stylist’s. Why? It’s not salon products or black capes that make hair look perfect. It’s the blowouts. Stylists know how to blow dry hair. But you can learn to do this, too! For salon-style hair with body and texture, all you need (besides a blow dryer) is a round brush.

The first key to a spectacular blow out is moisture control. Your hair should be clean and damp throughout when you begin your blow dry. So, dry any excess moisture. Use a soft towel to blot your hair, but don’t rub! Friction creates frizz.

Next, choose product to work into your hair. Mousses and gel mousses work best for ladies with fine hair. Thick hair needs a thicker product. Those of you with thick hair should use extra-strength mousse, gels, creams, or waxes. If your hair is medium in texture, you have more options: You can use mousses, gel mousses, gels, glazes, liquids, or creams. Massage the product into all of your strands – start at your roots, and work your way to your ends.

Know this: The professionals say that you need to direct the airflow down onto your hair. So, you should elevate the nozzle of your hair dryer above your head. This means that if you have short arms, it may be easier to blow dry your hair if you sit on a chair.

Now gather your hair, and clip your topmost layers away from your face. Divide your loose locks into two to four inch sections – it’s easier to work with small bits of hair.
Place your round brush underneath one section of loose hair. Start as close to your head as you can. Dry your hair, then wrap your ends around the brush. Slide the brush and the hair dryer down the entire length of your hair. When the section of hair that you are working with is completely dry, blast it with cool air. This will close the cuticle and set your style.

Repeat these steps until your bottommost layer of hair is dry. Then, unclip another layer and continue.

Remember, the most important thing you can do to create a sleek style is to practice. Effective use of a round brush takes some work, but once you learn these techniques, you will have free salon hair any time you want it. The perfect blowout is worth your time.
