People straighten their hair all the time, but most are probably doing something which could be damaging their hair. Follow these techniques to get healthy straight hair.

Many people straighten their hair often, but if you don’t know how to straighten your hair properly you can end up with damaged hair or not so straight hair.  Straightening your hair requires heat, so it is important to keep hair healthy and hydrated.  It’s important to start with moisturizing shampoos and conditioners that will keep your hair hydrated.  For people who have very wavy or curly hair it is important to blow dry hair before using a flat iron.  However, before applying any heat to your hair you should use a protective moisturizing cream on your hair that will keep it from frizzing and looking dry.

When the hair is still damp you should start by blow-drying it straight using a hairbrush.  By doing so your hair will already be relatively straight when you use the straightening iron, and it will save you time and keep your hair healthier because you won’t have to go over your hair several times to straighten stubborn pieces of hair.  Once you are done blow drying your hair, apply a little more cream to your hair to help it retain its moisture when you straighten it.

To begin using the straightening iron you must first pin up your hair, leaving small sections to straighten at a time.  It’s important in order to not dry out your hair or burn it, that you never leave the straightening iron on one part of your hair for too long.  If you have a stubborn piece of hair that doesn’t want to straighten, it’s best to go over it a few times, rather than going over it once and keeping the straightener in one spot for too long.  The straightener should always be in constant motion.

Once you are done straightening your hair you can apply a shine cream or spray to give your hair that healthy and glamorous shine.

Straightening your hair doesn’t have to be difficult and it doesn’t have to damage your hair, if you do it properly.
