As we age our scalp becomes drier and begins to produce less creamed. According to Dr. Friedman our oil glands slow down in production and that is why our scalp becomes more and drier as we age. However, thanks to cosmetic technology that is always looking out for our benefit, there are ways to still help our hair become bright and shiny.

The first step would be to use conditioner every time you wash your hair. I know this probably sounds like the biggest no brainer ever, but I know that when we are in a rush at times we will skip the whole conditioning process. If you condition your hair regularly it will help to minimize the breakage when you brush your hair. Also, we all should have a deep conditioning regimen every week. One great recommendation that anyone can afford is Organic Nourishing Repair Treatment that costs $7 at any drugstore. Another alternative if you have more to spend is Alterna Caviar Anti Aging Hair Masque with Sea Silk that costs $40.

Next is you want to be cool to your hair and what I mean by that is when you are done washing and conditioning your hair you should dry it with cool hair. Even when you are washing your hair I would recommend just using cool water. When you apply cooling agents to your hair it will cause the hair cuticles to shut and help to maintain the moisture in your hair.

Heat protection is a really big deal! I know for myself that I do not protect my hair well enough from all the heat! A solution is to apply a heat protection serum in your hair a few minutes before you straighten or curl your hair! Letting this sit a few minutes allows the serum to penetrate the cuticles for a deeper protection. My recommendations are VOS Extreme Heat Defense which will cost you $3.49 at any drugstore. If you have little more spending cash then I would recommends GHD Thermal Protector for $25 from Sephora.

My last and most important tool is to brush your hair right. The best kind of brush is the bristle brush. The bristle brushes are very smooth and soft so they are very gentle on your hair. However, make sure that the bristle brush you choose is tightly packed it will make your hair smoother when you brush it.
