Helping you understand why you’re losing your hair.
Those of us that have it flaunt it, those of us that don’t have it long for a full head of hair and live somewhat miserable lives. If you once had a full head of hair and suddenly you start losing it, you not only lose your hair but some women lose their confidence and their dignity. Some women as young as 16 or 17 starts losing their hair and those of us that have a full head of hair can only imagine what young people go through when this happens. It is such a vulnerable stage in their lives that it can be devastating. It is such a problem among young and older women that you can’t help but wonder what causes this problem. The answer to this is in the understanding of what takes place in your body.

Hair grows about an half an inch per month and each hair last about five or six years after this the hair stays for a while but eventually will fall out with the follicle that’s left start new growth. In some women this growth is interrupted. If our genetics include hair loss then a group of hormones called androgens will interfere with this process. Androgen hormones include testosterone, androsteinedione and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which men have in their bodies in abundance but women carry very little.

For women that are susceptible to hair loss when the testosterone collide with the enzymes in the hair cells it converts to the much more potent androgen which totally mixes up the normal receptors deep in the hair follicle. As time passes you get a buildup of this DHT and the follicle begins to disappear. This is what stops the hair growth. Some of these follicles die while others lose their ability to grow new hair. This condition is known in the medical profession as Alopecia. Professionals use to believe that the balding process in men was the same as it was in women, today they think differently one as nothing to do with the other.
