Five Best Red Drugstore Hair Dye Shades

I used to be a redhead for years in high school–I tried almost every red color on the drugstore shelves!

Garnier Nutrisse Light Reddish Blonde- This is a great color if you want a warm, sunny light red, almost strawberry blonde.  I used it on dark hair and while it didn’t give me the result that I hoped for (my hair was dark and color-treated after all) I saw the great effect it had on my roots–strawberry blonde.  I’d definitely recommend this color.

Revlon Colorsilk Luminista Red- This dye is meant for dark hair, so if your hair is difficult to lighten, consider trying this.  I’ve never used it myself, but I’ve seen some blog posts that show its effects–it’s not a coppery red, it’s more of a “true red” with a tint of purple.

L’Oreal Superior Preference Intense Red Copper- When I used this on color-treated porous hair, it gave me a dark intense red, but on lighter hair, it would have delivered a fabulous bright coppery shade.  Needless to say this is an extremely intense shade–go for it!

Garnier Nutrisse Bright Auburn Blonde- This is a great shade if you want a bright and vibrant red.  I used this on dark, color-treated hair, and the red was pretty intense!  Just imagine what that would look like on virgin hair.

Revlon Colorsilk Light Auburn- This is best if you want a natural, brownish red shade.  Colorsilk is only $3 and ammonia-free, so it’s a win-win!
