10 ways to maintain healthy hair

Now, I am no hair critic, everything I learned about hair, I learned from my grandmother who had the shiniest hair I have ever seen in my life. Most people prefer to keep their hair long, smooth and shiny, no matter the color. Remember than some people are born with healthy hair, so don’t fret if your hair is nowhere near like those people, maintenance is the key to healthy hair. So since it’s summer and we all know that summer vacation should be spent under the sun, sand and waves, let me give you 10 tips to maintain healthy hair despite the summer heat. It’s nothing scientific, sometimes it’s just common sense. But since it has worked for me and the rest of my family, it might also work for you.

  1. Take a bath everyday. Yes, you read it correctly, take a bath, wash your hair, use shampoo and conditioner. It cleans the hair and makes you feel fresh. If you don’t take a bath, you’re hair will grease and it gives the most uncomfortable feeling. Hair should be fresh-feeling, not greasy. I recommend to use a shampoo and a conditioner. Do not believe those 2 in one things. They do not work as efficiently as most people seem to think.
  2. Always wear a hat when under the sun, and apply conditioner. Heat frizzles hair and it is such a bad sight, it can also cause itchiness. scalp irritation, hair oil, etc. etc. Let’s not forget DANDRUFF!
  3. Live a healthy lifestyle. I don’t need to expand on this. Hair, like all other parts of the body, need healthy nutrients.
  4. 100 brush strokes a night. Yes. It works.
  5. Do not, for Godsakes, apply cheap chemicals on your hair. If you must dye it in another color, or hot oil it or whatever, go to a respectable PARLOR. Unless you’re a hair beautician, parlorist or whatever, do not do your own thing. Your hair will be even more dead than when before you applied chemicals into it.
  6. Drink as much water or liquid as you can
  7. Never tie it when it’s wet. Never rub it when wet and never use brush when wet. Prevent hair fall.
  8. Trim hair at least once in two weeks, it prevents split ends and dead hair
  9. Never experiment. Some hair are too sensitive that experimenting on it, leads to hair damage.
  10. Feel free to use household or kitchen ingredients like honey, aloe vera, lemon, etc-etc. I have never heard of any of those things damaging hair. I use honey once in a while, I hate the smell but I do have healthy hair so I guess it works for me.
