The crochet method of hair braiding creates hairstyles known as crochet hair braids. This is a very popular hair look among African-American women since the styles are versatile and easy to wear. Various types of hair braiding extensions can be used for different styles of crochet braids including curly, wavy, straight or micro braid hair extensions. Here is a list of styles of crochet braids.

Curly & Wavy Crochet Braids

Curly and wavy crochet braids hairstyles are achieved using curly hair extensions by attaching the hair to the head using the crochet braiding method. Both the curly and wavy crochet braid hair styles are the most popular type of crochet braids hairstyles because of its natural appearance. The curly or wavy hair extensions completely cover the tracks of cornrows that the hair extensions are attached to. This means that the spaces between the rows are not easily detectable and as such the hair appears to fall naturally from the head giving it the appearance of real hair. The curly and wavy looks give the wearer a full head of hair which is the best way to wear crochet hair braids. The types of hair braid extensions commonly used to get curly and wavy crochet braids include loose curls, deep curls, water curls, deep spiral curls, water wave, deep wave and loose deep wave hair braiding extensions.

Straight Crochet Braids

Straight Crochet braids styles are made using straight braid hair extensions. This type of style looks more like a hair weave as opposed to the curly crochet braids hairstyle which has more natural looking appearance. It can be worn in varying lengths and are usually worn shoulder length to mid-back length. The straight hair extension pieces used to create this hairstyle do not completely cover the spaces between the tracks of cornrow on the head. Consequently more hair has to be used so that the hair does not appear sparse on the head of the wearer.

Micro Crochet Braids

Micro crochet braids hairstyles are very trendy and easy to wear. Micro braids are usually braided by taking very small portions of the hair extension pieces and plaiting them with the hair of the wearer until the entire head is full with the micro-plaits. It can be very expensive and time consuming to get the micro braids look using the traditional method of braiding. However the crochet braiding method can give the wearer a similar look to the traditional micro braids hairstyle at a fraction of the cost and it can be done in less time. The micro crochet braids hairstyle is achieved using pre-braided micro-plait hair braiding extensions.
